Aion is a multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) where your character wields destructive powers and broad wings to explore a world of epic adventure. It features advanced imagery, dazzling environments, and a unique fantasy world. Your character of choice, we will discuss this in a moment, plays a role in Atreia, a world split in two by an ancient cataclysm.

Races

You can play one of two playable factions. The Elyos, (the good guys), or the Asmodians (the bad guys). The good guy, bad guy thing depends on which way you look at things.

Classes

Now that we know there are two races to choose from, in each of these races you will be able to choose from 4 classes. Mage, Warrior, Scout, and Priest. Also, once you have gained enough experience, you will be able to Ascend to one of the two specialized classes available to your primary class.

Character Customization

NCsoft has designed Aion to give you a wide variety of character customization options. You can easily shape your character’s face and body structure with a large number of sliders to control nearly every aspect of their physical appearance. You can also choose from a range of hairstyles, facial hair types, and skin tones. Character customization is not limited to appearance. Aion uses a Stigma system–a way for a character to use skills and abilities that do not belong to that character’s class. Though you may choose a particular class path, your play style is not limited to only what that class can do. With item crafting, you can not only make your character weapons, suits of armor, and other items, but you can also alter how these items appear in the game with dyes and other modifications

Flying and Arial Combat in Aion

Your character starts as a talented but normal human, but will, with training and leveling become much more than that. At level 10 you will transform into Daevas. This is when you will get your wings and fly.

There is actually going to be ariel combat in Aion. Daevas have wings and the ability to fly. While this ability is somewhat limited in their own lands, they found that mastering flight was a must in the Abyss. Daevas become masters of flight, and must continually upgrade their flight power with Aether-infused feathers in order to stand against their enemies

I pre-ordered the game at Gamestop and was given access to the beta. I was able to play the game this weekend just before they shut down the beta until game release. The game will be available to play September 20, 2009.

I was only able to play on Saturday for a few hours but from what I did see and from the areas I was able to interact with, I really think it is going to be a great game. I am sure that a lot of us will be comparing it to other games that we now play, or have played in the past. My first impression was that Final Fantasy and World of Warcraft had collided and gave us Aion. In my opinion, Aion is worth giving a shot. The graphics are awesome. Navigation, for quests, was very easy to follow. From the short time I did get to play, I am impressed as of now and hope to still be in the future.
